Case study

Leaks in reinforced concrete pipelines with diameter variations

Application
marines
Pipe Type (material + DN/OD)
Reinforced concrete with steel casing — DN800–900 (33 mm variation)
Pain/Context
Diameter variation and irregular sealing geometry
Sector
Water supply / Large pipelines
Country
Spain
Keywords
repair, reinforced concrete, steel casing, water supply, irregular geometry

In reinforced concrete pipelines with steel casing, leaks are often worsened by diameter differences, steps and irregular surfaces that complicate active sealing. In a project carried out by Aqualia Santander, the repair of a DN800–900 section with a 33 mm diameter mismatch was completed using a custom-made TRANS coupling, able to absorb tolerances and act as a clamp in a highly irregular geometry.
