Case study

Recurring failures in pipelines exposed to abrasion in mining operations

Application
marines
Pipe Type (material + DN/OD)
Stainless steel and HDPE — DN48–1000
Pain/Context
Abrasion, wall-thickness loss and the need to repair without stopping the plant
Sector
Mining / Industrial processes
Country
Chile
Keywords
repair, stainless steel, HDPE, mining, internal abrasion, process pipelines

In mining facilities, constant abrasion and wall-thickness loss in process lines often cause recurring leaks that must be repaired without interrupting production. At a copper plant in Chile, failures in stainless-steel and HDPE pipelines were resolved using REP couplings, enabling 10–15-minute interventions and avoiding shutdowns of 3 to 5 hours.
