Case study

Internal repair in buried pipelines with no possibility of excavation

Application
marines
Pipe Type (material + DN/OD)
GRP — DN1600 (gap up to 8 mm; 5–6 mm step; depth 8 m; 600×600 mm internal access)
Pain/Context
Internal repair with extremely limited access and no possibility of excavation
Sector
Water supply / Large pipelines
Country
Spain
Keywords
repair, PRFV, water supply, trenchless, manhole access

In large-diameter pipelines buried at depth or located in areas where excavation is not feasible, repairs must be carried out entirely from the inside — even when access is extremely restricted. In Zaragoza, a leak in a PRFV DN1600 pipeline at an 8-meter depth, and located within the AVE railway easement, was resolved using an internal WECO WE 1600/280 T1-EA2 repair coupling, designed to pass through a 600 × 600 mm manhole and compensate for the existing gap and step between pipe ends.
